Forecast Project Costs Manually
Background
Forecast project costs manually in Capital Planning to tailor period-by-period financial allocations to unique project spending schedules. Entering manual monthly distributions gives teams direct control over specific project phases where standard automated curves do not apply. Manual forecasting allows you to track and balance remaining funds across custom project timelines without automated redistribution.
Things to Consider
Required User Permissions:
'Standard' or 'Admin' level permissions on the company's Capital Planning tool.
Additional Information:
Manual forecasting is the default method for each project row until you select a distribution curve.
Forecast figures for months prior to the period marked with the Current pill are locked and cannot be edited.
Entering manual values does not automatically distribute remaining amounts. Check the Remaining to Spend column and adjust monthly figures until the balance equals zero.
You can set the forecasting curve back to manual at any time to freeze automatic curve distributions and customize individual monthly cells.
Steps
Navigate to the company's Capital Planning tool.
Locate the project row you want to forecast.
Click the Start Date field and select a beginning forecast date from the calendar.
Click the End Date field and select a concluding forecast date from the calendar.
In the 'Curve' column, select Manual.
Click directly into the period cell you want to adjust and enter the specific dollar amount.
Entering an amount in a quarterly or yearly cell spreads it evenly across each month.
Changes save automatically.
