User Guide Publish And Manage Models From The Documents Tool

You can publish 3D models from the project's Documents tool directly to the Models tool. This allows your team to view and interact with the latest model information in Procore's web and mobile applications. Using this feature helps to improve collaboration and reduce errors and rework.

• Required User Permissions:

  • You must have all of the following permissions:

    • 'Admin' level permissions on the project's Models tool.

    • 'Standard' or 'Admin' level permissions on the project's Documents tool.

    • 'Read Only' level permissions or higher on the Drawings tool if you want to map 2D drawings to the model.

• Additional Information:

  • These steps are only available in the Project level Documents tool.

• Activate the Models tool on the project. See Add and Remove Project Tools.

• Add project locations to Procore to map drawings to the model. See Add Locations to a Project.

• Upload your 3D model to the Documents tool. See Upload Files for Folders to the Project Level Documents Tool.

• Verify that the model file is fully processed. A green checkmark appears next to the model file name when its ready.

Step 1: Select the Model to Publish

1. Navigate to the project's Documents tool.

2. Find the 3D Model to publish.

3. Choose one of these options to open the Publish New Model panel:

   • Right-click the file and select Publish Model.

   • Mark the check box next to the file, click the More icon, and then click Publish Model.

   • Click the file to open it in the viewer, and then click the Model Publishing icon.

      Notes

     • Procore loads the model and opens the Model Publishing panel, which lists any previously published models from this file.

     • Depending on the file size, loading may take a few minutes to complete.

4. Optional: Make any adjustments to the model file using the options in the viewer's toolbar before continuing.

5. Click the Publish New Model icon.

6. Continue with the next step.

Step 2: Enter the Model Information

1. In the Publish New Model panel, complete this information:

    Note

   An asterisk (*) below indicates a required field.

   • Home View. Defines the model's thumbnail and default starting position. To change it, move the model to a new position in the viewer and click Update Home View.
     
     

   • Model Name. Enter a name for the model.

   • Model Status. Select an option from the drop-down menu:

     • Coordination. Indicates a work in progress for general reference only, not for installation.

     • Construction. Indicates it's ready for installation and verification.

     • As-Built. Indicates that it shows all completed work.

   • Automatic Revisions. Mark this checkbox to automatically publish a new revision when a new version of this file is uploaded. See Auto-Publish Model Revisions from the Documents Tool.

2. Continue with the next step.

Step 3: Add 2D Drawings

Choose whether you want to map 2D drawings to your model (recommended) or publish the model without mapping drawings.

1. In the 2D Map section, choose how you want to publish:

   • Map Drawings (Recommended). To link 2D drawings to the 3D model.

     • Click Next to proceed to the Map Drawings to Model screen.

   • Publish model without mapping drawings. To publish without 2D integration.

     • Click Publish to proceed to the publish step. See Step 6: Publish the Model.

2. On the Map Drawings to Model screen, make a selection from the dropdown menu for each of the following required fields:

   • Level. Select a location level from the drop-down menu.

   • Drawing Area. Select a drawing area from the drop-down menu.

   • Drawings. Select the relevant drawing(s).

3. Click Next.

Step 4: Add Views

Next, add specific viewpoints from your model file.

1. Under Views, click Add Views.

    Notes

   • Depending on the file's size, it can take a few minutes to load the views data from Navisworks®. Once loaded, the Add Views button becomes active.

   • If a model file has no views to add, the 'Add Views' button is disabled, and the "This file has no views available to add to the model" appears.

2. In the Add Views window, the system loads the folder structure for Navisworks®. When publishing a model, you can add up to 200 views:

   • Mark the checkbox at the top of the panel to add all the viewpoints at once

   • Mark specific checkboxes to import only the viewpoints you select.

3. Click Next.

Step 5: Align the 2D Sheet to the Model

If you chose the Map Drawings (Recommended) option to link 2D drawings to the 3D model, follow these steps to align your 2D drawing with the 3D model by setting corresponding points:

1. Set reference points on the 3D Model:

   1. Click Map Model to begin.

   2. Select two reference points on the 3D model. The points will be labeled 'A' and 'B'.

   3. To clear your selected points, click Reset All.

   4. When you are satisfied with your points, click Save.

2. Select matching points on the 2D Drawing(s):

   1. Click Map Drawings to begin selecting points on the drawing(s).

   2. Select the same two reference points on the 2D drawing that correspond to points 'A' and 'B' from the model.

      • The rest of the selected drawings will be automatically mapped.
        Note: Reference points are saved automatically, but reviewing the drawing turns the checkmark blue.
        

        

   3. To clear your selected points, click Reset All.

   4. To clear the selected points on one drawing, select the drawing and click Reset Mapping.

   5. Click Save to confirm the points.

3. Click Done Mapping when finished.

4. Click Save Changes.

Step 6: Publish the Model

1. When you're ready to publish the model, click Publish.

    Notes

   • The model displays in a loading state until it's published.

   • To cancel publishing, click the Delete icon.

2. To view the published model in the model viewer, click the model in the panel. You can also open the model in the Models tool on Procore's web and mobile applications. See View a Model (Web), (iOS), or (Android).
