Assign Default Units of Measure to Cost Types

In Beta

This feature is currently in closed beta for select Procore customers.

Background

This feature ensures that the unit of measure (UoM) for financial line items aligns with the budgeted unit of measure. This provides consistent reporting and accurate quantity summation for contractors who track work on a unit-quantity basis.

Things to Consider

  • Required User Permissions

    • 'Admin' level permissions on the Company level Admin tool.

  • If the "prevent editing" setting is enabled at the company level, the assigned UOM will be locked on all financial line items. If disabled, the UOM will still default to your selection but remains editable.

  • Once assigned, these defaults apply to the Budget tool, Direct Costs, and all other financial line items where a budget code is selected.

Prerequisites

  • The Modernized  Budget Table Experience must be enabled in Procore Explore.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the Company level Admin tool.

  2. Under Company Settings, click Work Breakdown Structure.

  3. Click the gear icon.
This opens the Work Breakdown Structure Company Settings page.

  4. To ensure consistency across the company, mark the Prevent the editing of UoM when one is associated to a Budget Code checkbox.
Note: If you leave this unmarked, the UoM will still default to your selection but can be changed by users on individual line items.

  5. Navigate to the Segments tab and select the Cost Type segment.

  6. Locate the cost type you want to modify (e.g., Labor).

  7. In the 'Unit Measure Assignment' section, select your preferred Unit of Measure (e.g., hours).

  8. Click Save.
