Why Did my Estimate Import Fail?
Background
When importing estimates using the AI-powered Intake capability in the Estimating tool, improper file formatting or unmatched data can disrupt the import process. Understanding the common causes for import issues helps you adjust your files and data mappings before committing the import into Procore. This ensures your estimate details and line items map accurately into your project.
Answer
Estimate imports can fail or present errors during the AI Intake process for a few specific reasons. Review the troubleshooting scenarios below to resolve the issue:
Unsupported File Format
Intake currently supports .csv files only.
Attempting to upload Microsoft Excel files (.xlsx or .xls) causes the import to fail. If your estimate is saved in Excel format, open the file in Microsoft Excel, save or export it as a .csv file, and re-upload it.
Complex File Headers
Files with column headers such as blank rows, project names, or company logos above the column headers can confuse the AI system.
To resolve this, edit your CSV file to remove any top row data or blank rows so that your column headers or data start on row 1.
Unmatched Cost Catalog Items
During the import process, the AI automatically attempts to match imported items against your Cost Catalog.
If the system cannot find a match for an item, review the real time preview screen. You can manually map or resolve unmatched items before completing the import to ensure all items align with your existing catalog items.
Flexible Table Layout
Ensure your project is set up to use the Flexible Table Layout, as it is required to process imports through Intake.
