Packages provide a dedicated workspace within Document Management to group related documents and placeholders, establish milestone context, track real-time progress statistics, and run sequential document reviews. Review common questions below:
What is a Package in Document Management?
A Package is a first-class grouping container for related documents and placeholders. It features dedicated metadata, real-time progress rollups (Content Breakdown, Placeholder Fulfillment, Workflow Completion), and an event history log.
Does adding a document to a Package change its permissions?
No. Document access remains governed entirely by document-level permissions. If a user views a Package containing documents they lack permission to access, those restricted files are hidden, and progress statistics automatically adjust to reflect only the files they can view.
Can one document belong to multiple Packages?
Yes. A single document revision, version, or placeholder can be assigned to multiple Packages simultaneously.
Can I create Packages from the Uploads tab?
Yes. Users can create a new Package from all tabs within the Document Management tool (Documents, Uploads, and Packages).
Can I restrict a Package to specific users?
No. Access to Package functionality is controlled globally per project via Document Management permission groups (Create, View, Add Items, Edit, Delete). Private or restricted visibility settings for individual Packages are not supported.
What happens if I move a Package to the Recycle Bin?
Moving a Package to the Recycle Bin soft-deletes the Package shell only. All underlying documents and placeholders remain unaffected in the Documents tab. Note that in this release, there is no means to view or recover Packages once they have been recycled.
Does Package status auto-update when all document workflows complete?
No. Package status updates are strictly manual in this release.
Can I execute workflow actions on Package items in bulk?
Yes. You can select multiple documents within the Package Items section and click Submit Workflow Response, provided all selected documents share the exact same workflow template, are on the same current review step, and have your account assigned as the responder.
Does "Review Package" merge files into a single PDF?
No. "Review Package" provides a sequential, performance-optimized viewing flow through all Package items inside the Viewer. Markups, comments, and workflow responses remain stored on each underlying document.
Where are the values for Package Type and Package Status configured?
Package Type and Package Status are set at the company level under Company Admin Tool > Tool Settings > Document Management > Default Fields.
Default Package Status values: AR - Archived, CL - Closed, DR - Draft, IP - In Progress, OP - Open.
Default Package Type values: EX - External, IN - Internal.
Project Administrators can further enable/disable these values or add custom code + value pairs within the Project Admin tool settings.
