Background
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) secures your account by requiring a second verification step when you log in to Procore. If your specific facility or job site prohibits mobile devices on-premises, you can fulfill this requirement by using a desktop-based authenticator application instead. This allows you to log in securely from your computer without violating workplace device policies.
Always check with your IT or security team before installing any new application on a work-managed device.
Answer
You can use any Time-Based One-Time Password (TOTP) compatible authenticator application installed directly on your computer to log in to Procore.
TOTP stands for Time-Based One-Time Password, an open standard that generates a 6-digit code that refreshes every 30 seconds. Any TOTP-compatible app works with Procore's authenticator app enrollment flow, including apps that run on a desktop or laptop.
Step 1: Get a TOTP-Compatible Authenticator App
Install a TOTP-compatible authenticator app on the computer you use to access Procore. Procore does not recommend or endorse specific applications. For general guidance on verification methods, see Verification Methods.
Step 2: Start the Setup Flow in Procore
Log in to Procore.
Click your profile avatar and go to My Profile.
Select the Password & Security tab.
Under Authentication Methods, click Add Authenticator App. If you already have one configured, click Change Authenticator App.
Enter your Procore password and click Continue.
Step 3: Get Your Setup Key
Procore displays a QR code on the setup screen. Because your authenticator app is on the same computer you are using to access Procore, you cannot scan the QR code with a camera. Use the manual key instead:
Click Get a Setup Key below the QR code.
Click Copy Key.
Step 4: Add the Key to Your Authenticator App
Open your authenticator app and select the option to add an account manually (sometimes labeled "Enter a setup key" or similar).
Paste the copied key into the secret or setup key field.
Save the entry.
Your app will begin generating 6-digit codes for your Procore account.
Step 5: Complete Verification in Procore
Copy the current 6-digit code from your authenticator app.
Paste it into the Enter the 6-digit verification code field in Procore.
Click Continue.
Step 6: Save Your Recover Code
Procore will display a one-time recovery code. Store it somewhere secure and separate from your authenticator app, such as a password manager. You will need this code if you ever lose access to your authenticator app.
Click Continue to finish setup. You will be returned to the Password & Security page.
If you lose access to both your authenticator application and your recovery code, contact your company's Procore Administrator to reset your MFA settings.
