Edit the Advanced Settings Tab on a Commitment
Background
When working with an individual commitment contract, a user with 'Admin' permission on the project's Commitments tool has the ability to use some advanced settings that apply only to that commitment. For best results, it is recommended that you configure the advanced settings before you add line items and before you create your downstream commitment invoices.
Things to Consider
Required User Permissions:
'Admin' level permissions on the project's Commitments tool.
Additional Information:
For best results, configure the advanced settings before you add line items to the SOV and before you create invoices against the commitment contract.
Additional settings can be configured by an administrator. See Configure Advanced Settings: Commitments.
Prerequisites
Create a Commitment
Steps
Navigate to the project's Commitments tool.
Under the Contracts tab, locate the purchase order or subcontract. Then click View.
Click Advanced Settings.
Click Edit Advanced Settings, turn features ON and OFF as follows:
Enable Comments. Place a checkmark in this box to provide users with 'Admin' level permissions on the project's Commitments tool with the ability to add comments.
Financial Markup
Enable Financial Markups. Place a checkmark in this box to provide users with the ability to add financial markup to change orders. To learn more, see Add Financial Markup to Commitment Change Orders.
Invoices
Enable Invoices. Mark this checkbox to enable the Invoices tab on the commitment. The controls in this tab provide users with 'Admin' permission on the Commitments tool with the ability to invite subcontractors to create invoices for the commitment. See Send an 'Invite to Bill' to an Invoice Contact.
Enable Work Retainage This Period. Mark this checkbox to enable a data entry field that gives users the ability to specify completed work retainage on the commitment contract. Remove the mark from this checkbox to change the 'Default Retainage Percent' setting on the commitment to zero (0) percent.
Important
For best results, it is recommended that you decide whether you want to turn the 'Enable Completed Work Retainage' setting ON or OFF before you begin creating subcontractor invoices for the commitment contract.
Enable Sliding Scale Retention.
Place a checkmark in this box to enable the sliding scale retention feature. This option is available to Procore users in Australia by default. For users in other countries, this feature can only be enabled by Procore. To learn more, see Enable Sliding Scale Retention Rules on a Commitment's Invoices and What is sliding scale retention?
Enable billing separately for stored materials
Place a checkmark in this box to allow contractors to claim and bill for materials that have been purchased and are currently stored on-site or in an approved warehouse before they are installed. When enabled, Procore adds dedicated columns to the invoice's Schedule of Values (SOV) to track "Materials Presently Stored" separately from completed work. To learn more, see About Stored Materials on Invoices.
Enable Stored Material Retainage
Place a checkmark in this box to withhold a specific percentage of retention (retainage) strictly from the billed value of stored materials. This ensures that an agreed-upon amount is held back to mitigate risk and guarantee those materials are safely available and installed on the project. This setting is only available for contracts using the Amount-Based accounting method. To learn more, see Enable Retainage on a Purchase Order or Subcontract.
PDF Export. Place a checkmark in this box to choose what items and columns are displayed on exported invoice PDFs. This allows you to customize the layout of the generated PDF document such as showing or hiding specific details like retainage or stored materials to match the layout preference of your client or internal accounting team. To learn more, see Export an Invoice to PDF.
Show Cost Code on PDF. Place a checkmark in this box to show the cost code on the generated invoice PDF by default. While a dedicated cost code column may not appear if you use specific custom billing configurations, enabling this feature ensures your project cost codes remain visible inside the section headers when line items are grouped by cost code. To learn more, see Configure Settings: Commitments.
Change Orders. Choose one of the following settings to define the level of detail that displays for change orders when users view or print the detail page for an invoice. Options include:
Commitment Change Order (CCO). This option includes CCO information on the detail page.
Line Items in each Change Order (CCO). This option includes the line items for the CCOs.
Payments
Enable Payments. Place a checkmark in this box to allow users to record, track, and manage payment information directly against invoices within Procore. When enabled, this feature unlocks the ability to create payment records, monitor outstanding balances, and optionally integrate with a connected payment gateway to process digital payments.
Subcontractor Schedule of Values
Contractor or Subcontractor SOV
Note
The name of this option changes, depending upon which Point-of-View dictionary is configured on your project. See What tool names and terms are different in Procore for general contractors, owners, and specialty contractors?
