Assign a Unit of Measure to a Company Cost Type (Beta)

In Beta

Company Administrators can enable the UOM & WBS: Assign Units of Measure to Budget Codes and Lock on Line Items beta in Procore Explore.

Background

Company admins can assign a default Unit of Measure (UOM), such as hours, tons, or linear feet, to a company cost type in the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) settings. Once assigned, selecting that cost type when creating a budget code automatically populates the default UOM. The UOM also populates automatically when adding line items using any budget code associated with that cost type in financial tools across all projects.

If the 'Prevent a project team from updating a Budget Code's assigned UoM' setting is enabled, the default UOM is locked and cannot be edited across budgets, contracts, change management, direct costs, and invoicing. See Configure Work Breakdown Structure Company Settings and Configure Work Breakdown Structure Project Settings.

Things to Consider

  • Required User Permissions:

    • 'Admin' level permissions on the Company level Admin tool.

  • Additional Information:

    • The assigned UOM is displayed in the 'Units' column on invoices and exported PDFs, but it cannot be edited.

    • Updating or Changing a UOM Assignment:

      • Changing a company cost type's assigned UOM updates the default UOM for all budget codes associated with that cost type across all projects.

      • Modifying an assigned UOM does not update existing financial line items.

    • Removing a UOM Assignment:

      • Deleting an assigned UOM unlocks the UOM field for budget codes using that cost type, allowing users to update the UOM individually as needed.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the Company level Admin tool.

  2. Under 'Company Settings', click Work Breakdown Structure.

  3. Click the gear Icon Settings Gear Android icon.

  4. Under 'Segments', click Cost Type.

  5. Locate the cost type you want to assign a unit of measure (UOM) to.

  6. Click the drop-down list in the Company UOM Assignment column.

  7. Search for or select a UOM.

    Note

    Standard Behavior (Without restrictions)

    • When UOM editing restrictions are disabled (Company or Project):

      • This UOM is automatically assigned to budget codes created with this cost type and can be changed on individual budget codes. Financial line items use the budget code’s UOM.

    Restricted Behavior

    • When UOM editing restrictions are enabled (Company or Project):

      • This UOM is automatically populated and cannot be edited when users create a budget code with this cost type, or when they add line items using any budget code associated with that cost type in financial tools across all projects.
